It's something I like about these quarters, I can change what I can see out of the windows. Looking at space is nice, but sometimes you need a change. An entire wall like that would be great.

[Not to mention being able to see movies wall sized.]

Well, I doubt I'll be any better at taking leave as a Captain. A wall like that gives me something in between.

( she might also not get other opportunities depending on whether there was some necessary task whilst the crew enjoyed their leave )

Are there any sights you'd recommend?

I've always liked the desert. [No surprise there.] Sometimes I switch mine to Andoria if I want to be reminded of Montana.

There are parts of the deserts I like but I don't know if I'd want them on my walls.

( she'd rather be there for the hikes she does. that's what she goes to the desert for )

I might make sure some forests are in there.

( they reminded her a little more of home )

That makes sense, I doubt the remind you of home.

[They remind him of home, but he loved the Mojave Desert. He nods at her mention of forests.]

Were there a lot of forests on your colony?

Yeah. They made some very good places to walk, or play as a kid.

( trees to hide in and explore. the same trees you'd climb later as an adult for different purposes )

It seems a safe thing to put up, especially if they're from another planet.

[He liked finding out little things about when she was younger.]

And the trees might look different but it's the same general atmosphere.

They're pretty magical. I think at one point I almost spent more time in a tree than on the ground. It was an interesting few weeks.

( and a story she won't get too in depth with him. some memories should stay buried )

I used to spend days in the desert. Why did you stay in the tree?

I'd... the closest you'd call it was camped but we were in a tree. It was quiet and private.

It sounds nice. Who was the other person in "we"?

[Because he did not believe 'Good views' at all.]

I did the same thing in the desert. It was just nice to be alone I could just relax.

( a little wide-eyed realisation that she'd let that slip, a little innocence in her expression. but he's caught onto it )

My boyfriend. Who I'm not telling you about. That was a long time ago.

[He holds up his hands in mock surrender.]

( she's also going to be honest and say she's tried never really thinking about that, even when he's sneaked them aboard. better to play ignorant than to have a hurting heart.

[All of those were arrangements between captains and higher all of which he doesn't plan on bringing up.]

Though there are a lot of other things we can do. And it's nice doing something for the first time with you.

What else would you like to do?

Anything like this would need shore leave. I'm okay with dinners.

( una could count on one hand how many actual dates she'd been on, how much was more than just a casual drink and sex, the thhing she usually only then gave herself time for. rarely still.

dates with him? she'd worked herself up a little before this first dinner nevermind going somewhere with him )

And without thinking about it I'm not sure what I usually do counts as a date.

( except anything could be. hiking and camping could be a date if you both enjoyed it, especially getting to stargaze or cuddle up in the tent later. or have sex. all were options )

On board, dinners are fine with me.

[Though he would really like to go out with her, somewhere they have to look nice, no uniforms, and just enjoy something together.]

Well, I did bring up the jazz club idea. Though that's for when we're close to earth.

( he'd have to remember that one when they were back nearer earth, it was newer to her. so was dating but she'd be making an effort of things to do with him )

There's an exhibit on Mars I've always wanted to see. I never usually think it's enough of a reason to go.

That sounds like fun. Museum, dinner out, it'll be a real date, like regular people.

( her eyebrows raise slightly and the idea dawns on her more. it's the full real thing, this is what a relationship is, spending time with him off the ship as well as in their quarters )

Well, I'll let you know if I come up with other places I've wanted to see.

You look surprised that I suggested a real date.

[Out of all the things they talked about over the years, their past relationship experiences wasn't something ever mentioned. He wasn't exactly secretive about his but he can't remember a time when Una said anything.]

Not surprised just... not used to it?

( hey, the whole thing was new, it wasn't just a measure of how little she'd actually been on dates over the past... too many years )

At least not when this is its own secret. I just need to figure out how that'd work.

As long as we stay away from the shipyards we should be fine.

[And as long as they weren't all over each other in public, most people would just assume they were just out together.]
