( as it turns out, the doctor may have also needed directions. but in her defense, she hasn't had the chance to properly explore yet, and she's pretty sure the tardis is messing with them, and she only gets them lost once.
but the point is, they get there, the room that could be called a wardrobe if it didn't look more like an over-stocked charity shop these days. )
( even now all of the men's clothes -- for a friend or future regeneration.
river takes a good look around before grabbing a few things and then a couple of other items (a nice jumper) that she helpfully slides the doctor's way.
she says nothing about them, waiting until she's gotten herself changed (jumper, jeans and boots) before speaking )
( and that is exactly why she never does get rid of anything. never know when you'll need a leather jacket or a 20 foot long scarf.
or a jumper, which she takes gratefully and starts to put on. when it's over her head she pauses to pull her braces from her shoulders, finishes putting the jumper on, then puts the braces back on again. perfect. )

I might not even mind if it wasn't.
( because, as much as she wanted peace and to think anything and everything felt alright when she was with the doctor. it was the one place that felt home and safe -- something that she'd spent so long craving in her youth and had been so pleased to find.
river's first few steps are tentative and whilst the snow isn't deep enough to get a real crunch it's enough to see their footprints behind them, a light dusting starting to cover river's boots.
looking out it's almost as if they could walk for miles, nothing but the occasional tree around them. had there ever been buildings or were they covered, hidden against the light shining off the ice and snow )
It's almost strange to hear so little.
( but at least it wasn't silent. not like the library had been. there were still some sounds, ones of their footsteps, the trees gently moving in the wind. no wildlife just nature )

( sure, it was cold, but river had been in worse situations than this -- some of her own expeditions had ended up far less hospitable than all of her data had given her )
