[ her eidetic memory supplies her with a vivid recap of the crippling blow that sent her ship tumbling headlong toward the net of the planetary defense system. she's awake. she's just taking a second to review what happened before opening her eyes to an unfamiliar room. ]

I'm fine.

[ some people, like seven, are prideful enough to say that before they really know if it's true. she sits up quickly, as if that's going to satisfy the admiral's alleged concern.

to confirm for herself, seven reaches—with her left hand, covered in an exoskeletal mesh—to touch the side of her forehead. it's the same side where a bleeding wound used to be. she doesn't remember receiving treatment, but the damage was obviously repaired while she was unconscious. she gets the impression that this softly-accented romulan woman has been in the room with her for some time. ]

You're the ship's doctor?

[ la sirena's emergency medical hologram doesn't take the bait and correct the misunderstanding. (seven knows an emergency medical hologram who would.) there's nothing secret about the borg nanoprobes in her bloodstream, and nothing subtle about the remaining implants tied to her vital functions, but she'd still prefer not to be scanned for anything other than medical reasons. ]

No.

( though aside from the emergency hologram she was probably as good as it. somehow. she had basic medical knowledge and the fact that this woman had originally been human was helpful there, though healing a cut was something anyone could do )

I volunteered to watch over you whilst you were unconscious.

( though not really out of concern for her wellbeing )

He'll be glad to see that you're awake.

[ concern for her wellbeing is not the most probable motive seven would ascribe to a stranger who'd volunteered to watch over her. based on the answer she got, she's tempted to ask if the romulan woman is ship's security next.

seven doesn't like the loss of control and loss of time inherent in passing out at all. she'd be prickly with whoever happened to be around when she awoke. it's nothing personal, but the xb has a suspicious mind. she quirks a brow, expression and tone working together to convey her skepticism. ]

I'm not sure how glad he'll be. I've never met him before.

[ she and picard have a shared experience that neither of them would enjoy revisiting, yet they've never encountered each other as individuals. it isn't hard to imagine how someone would be able to put a name to the admiral's face without meeting him. countless people know who he is and what he looks like. it's more telling that picard recognized her.

her own internal diagnostics aren't returning any troubling results, so she stands up. there's no medical reason she shouldn't. she doesn't make a move to leave either the conversation or the room, she's just eager to be back on her feet. ]

( it is curious, though laris isn't too perplexed by it. many people know the admiral and she'll trust him to have a reason of why he knows her. perhaps she's well-known to starfleet which isn't actually a good thing )

Being awake means he can talk to you.

( and ask what the hell she's doing here. at least once laris is done with her anyway. seven isn't the only one with a suspicious mind )

There's a few curiosities he'll want clearing up. But I'll let him handle that.
